How To Create A Profitable Newsletter That Subscribers Love To Read

Email, and particularly creating a profitable newsletter, is still the killer app that beats every other form of marketing technique in existence. And email is the core reason why Product Launch Formula works so well.

Yes you have other factors such as your pre-launch content, your sales letter or video, and your interaction with prospects in the Facebook comments at the bottom of your launch pages. But the delivery system is what holds everything together. And the main delivery system is still email.

Over the next few posts you’re going to learn about the three things it takes to create a thriving, COVID-19 recession proof  business based on email marketing. The posts will be covering 3 core areas:

1. Using compelling content that allows you to build a personal relationship with the people on your list
2. Generating organic and paid Traffic to your website so visitors can join your list
3. How to make irresistible Offers to your subscribers so they want to hear from and buy from you

In particular, we’re going to be looking at how to create content to support those three key areas.

So, with that in mind, let’s jump right into the first key, as you learn how to create a profitable newsletter that your subscribes can’t wait to read. In order to do this, you need to do three things:

1. Create an exciting title and theme
2. Generate compelling headlines and content that delivers
3. Make your content visually appealing and easy to read

Let’s look at each of these three in more detail…

Create an Exciting Title and Theme

Seems like everyone and their brother has a mailing list, which means you won’t get a lot of sign ups if you have a “run of the mill” newsletter. For example, if you tell people to “sign up to learn how to train your dog” that’s not very original. You won’t stand out. And people aren’t going to hand over their precious email addresses for something they’re probably already getting elsewhere.

Instead, you need to create a unique theme and title that catches people attention, gets you standing out from your competitors, and makes people want to join.

How?

One really good way to do this is by creating some sort of proprietary formula or system that you promise to share within your newsletter.

Let’s take the example of the very popular P90x workout system. Their fat-loss system was pretty much the same as everyone else’s. However, what set them apart is that they gave a fresh name to their system: they called it the Science of Muscle Confusion™.

No one else in the industry was using that exact name, which made the workout system stand out and get a lot of attention (even from notable figures such as Michelle Obama and Sheryl Crow). While that’s an example of how they named a program, it’s a great illustration of how you can name your newsletter.

Finally, you can use alliteration to stand out. This newsletter you’re reading now is an example (Three to Thrive). And as with all of these examples, the name matches the focused theme. Instead of talking about everything related to online marketing, this newsletter focuses on the three keys your business needs to thrive.

One final note: once you select your title and theme, then be sure to include this information on your opt-in page. You’ll also want to set expectations on this page, by letting people know what sort of content they’ll get and how often. E.G., “Each week you’ll get a fresh newsletter teaching you how to [get some good result], plus I’ll share with you my favorite resources for [making this process quicker/easier/faster!”

Now the next point…

Product Launch Formula Quiz

Generate Compelling Headlines and Content

Your awesome theme and newsletter title compelled people to sign up. Now your next challenge is to get them to open and read your content. You do this by creating compelling headlines (AKA subject lines) followed by content that delivers on those headlines.

Here’s the key: don’t create click-bait titles that don’t match the content. This will disappoint and even upset subscribers, who will stop reading your newsletter and likely unsubscribe.

Instead, create intriguing titles, and then be sure your content creates a payoff.

For example, a title might be something like, “The weird fat-loss trick you’ve never heard of before…”

When readers open up and read the newsletter, they indeed better be reading something that they’ve never heard about before.

Let’s suppose the “trick” isn’t entirely new. In that case, your title might be something like this: “The weird fat-loss trick that really works…”

If your content then shares a trick that is a little “weird” (maybe something not commonly used), but it’s proven to work, then you’ve got good content that matches a compelling title.

You can take this tip and put it to work for you ASAP. Take note that we’ll be talking about how to create compelling content in length in future issues of this newsletter.

So, let’s move on and look at the third key to creating a newsletter people want to read…

Make Visually Appealing Content

The third key to creating a newsletter that your subscribers really want to read is to create visually enjoyable content. Here are tips for doing this:

Utilise White Space

Use short paragraphs, bulleted lists and similar elements to create more white space in your newsletter. This makes it visually appealing and easier to read.

Insert Graphics

Good graphics break up content, which makes it easier to read. They also add value to your content and make it more visually appealing.

Use a Polished Layout/Design

Don’t just send out a plain-text newsletter. Instead, use a responsive layout and HTML to create something that’s visually appealing. Many email service providers offer free templates so you can do this quickly and easily, no tech experience required.

Now let’s wrap things up…

Summary

If you’re looking to create a newsletter that people really want to read (and what marketer doesn’t?), then you need to implement the three keys you just learned about. Namely:

1. Create an exciting title and theme for your newsletter
2. Generate compelling headlines and content that delivers on your headlines
3. Make your content visually appealing and easy to read

If you do these three things, you’ll be well on your way to building a responsive list of eager readers who open (and read!) everything you send them!

How To Build Your Product Launch Email List Step By Step

No matter what type of product or service you’re going to be using a product launch for, one thing you need to be doing is building a product launch email list. That’s because an email database is one of the most valuable assets you can have.

Even if every one of your traffic sources dried up overnight, you’d still be okay as long as you had your list. And even if your products somehow disappeared off the face of the earth, you could still make money by selling other people’s stuff as long as you had your email list. So the point is, list building should be a top priority for you.

That’s why I’ve create this checklist so you can be sure you have all the right pieces in place. Take a look…

First Up You’ll Need An Enticing Lead Magnet

A great lead magnet could be an ebook, video, app, ecourse or anything else that has the following characteristics:

  • It’s easy to deliver. (It would typically be a digital download that you deliver automatically through your autoresponder)
  • It’s something your prospects really want. (Hint: do your market research to find out what problem people in your niche really want to solve and give them the solution)
  • It has a high perceived value
  • It solves a specific problem (it’s not a bunch of general ‘tips’ but something actionable people can get a result from)
  • It sells something else on the backend (such as your front end product)

You can learn more about lead magnets here

Develop A Compelling Optin Page

Even though your lead magnet is free, people aren’t going to knock down your door to claim it unless you show them it has a lot of value. That’s why you need to create a lead or optin page that persuades people to fill in your opt-in form to grab it. Keep these tips in mind:

  • Be sure your lead page looks polished and professional
  • Lead with your product’s main benefits and the results people will get from consuming it
  • Arouse your prospect’s curiosity about the lead magnet if possible. (With the idea being that the only way to satisfy their curiosity is by opting in and getting the lead magnet)
  • Use a specific call to action to get people opting in (EG – Enter your email address into the form below below to grab your copy)

Personally, I use LeadPages and love them, but there are plenty of alternatives these days.

One more thing before we move on: Being to create irresistible offers is so important to the success of your list building campaign and ultimately your launch that I’ve put together a Free Cheat Sheet that shows you how to create the perfect offer.

If you can make irresistible offers at both the lead generation stage and for your product or service itself, your launch should absolutely crush it. To make sure you don’t miss anything as you develop your offers, click here to grab your Free copy of The Perfect Offer Cheatsheet

Choose A Reputable Autoresponder

Steer away from using ‘free’ or seemingly low-cost autoresponders or services without a proven track record over many years. Go with well-established services such as Aweber.com, GetResponse.com, iContact.com and similar.

Create An Initial Autoresponder Sequence

Generally, this multi-part sequence should introduce you to new prospects, let them know what to expect from you, bond with them and ultimately promote your front-end or ‘tripwire’ product. Keep these tips in mind:

    • Offer an informational sequence that’s useful (to build good relationships and keep people reading), yet incomplete (which helps you steer people towards paid products).
    • Provide a three to seven-part sequence that’s informative and engaging. Each email should build anticipation for upcoming emails. E.G., “Next time you’ll discover a little-known trick for getting rid of cellulite!”
    • Craft benefit-driven, curiosity arousing subject lines to get the open. E.G., “Start a six-figure business for just $47?”
    • Use responsive templates/HTML in your emails, as a large number of your subscribers will be reading your message from their mobile phones.
    • Track and test your emails. It’s the only way to know what’s really working in terms of email subject lines, sales copy, calls to action, and even the offers themselves.

And finally…

Make A Commitment to Maintaining Your List

It’s pretty pointless to go through all these steps if you don’t intend to stay in touch with your subscribers regularly. So, commit to emailing them at least once or twice a week, and you’ll see your list profits continue to grow!

By starting to build your email list now, when you’re ready for your product launch you’ll have a group of people who already know who you are, who you’ve already helped, and who will be responsive to buying from you again.

These people will be especially responsive if you invite them to co-create your new product using a Seed Launch. And they’ll be your most rabid buyers if you run an Internal Launch before you roll out your  JV Launch.

Warm regards,

Rocky Tapscott

Why Email Is Still The Killer App For Launching Products

In this Product Launch Strategy post, I’ve got a short video that shows why email marketing is STILL the killer App, even with all of the hype and buzz around Social Media.

You can read the full post here (Opens in a new window)

As you can see, email marketing still gets you in front of more ‘real’ prospects and customers than Twitter and Facebook combined. And email is at the heart of what Jeff Walker’s Product Launch Formula training is all about… …advanced email marketing. Not just the stuff you can learn for free by watching a few YouTube videos or grabbing a throwaway report. The kind of email marketing that can turn a relatively good product into a 6 figure a year business.

So how does Product Launch Formula do that?

There are two big secrets that most people miss. The first one is to find out EXACTLY what problems your market has and then come up with a way of solving them. This lets you create a product that people actually WANT. The second secret is to focus on turning your launch into an EVENT instead of just sending out a series of emails without any real strategy behind them.

Then you add in some of the most powerful emotional triggers such as reciprocity, liking, scarcity, the bargain, social proof, just to name a few, and you have the makings of a killer product launch. Product Launch Formula also shows how to get Joint Venture partners lining up to promote your launch for you, even if you are new to the game.

Very cool strategy. And since this is totally new, Jeff is going to cover the latest stuff in getting people to your launch and generating traffic from all kinds of places.

4 Common Email Marketing Mistakes

Product Launch Formula Review

Product Launch Formula Review

In this Product Launch Strategy post, we’re going to share the solution for 4 of the biggest email marketing mistakes both PLF owners are guilty of making as well as people who don’t use Jeff Walker’s system.

If you use email marketing to sell your products or services, you’ve probably seen first hand how not all of your campaigns make you money.

There’s usually more than one cause for this: your messages might have been flagged as Spam, or you may not have followed up in the right way. Not being ready and stocked up for an influx of new customers is also a very common problem, as is not writing your messages to talk specifically to your target market.

Let’s have a look at how you can use some of the ideas in Product Launch Formula to increase the odds of making money from your email promotions by not falling into one or more of these traps…

Product Launch Tip #1 – Make Sure You Avoid Those Spam Filters

The first problem you are going to face is getting your messages through Spam filters so your readers actually get them. Every day we get stuff promoting products or services we aren’t interested in. I’m sure you know what I’m talking about LOL.

To stay out of your reader’s Spam folder, make sure your messages include helpful, useful and relevant content that your reader will find interesting. Jeff talks a lot about this in Product Launch Formula and it will make it much more likely your message will be received, opened, read and acted upon.

Product Launch Tip #2 – Follow Up Regularly

Not following up regularly is another major oversight that most business owners are guilty of. We’ve tested it extensively here at Product Launch Strategy and while sending your readers a single marketing email can make you a small amount of money, it’s WAY more profitable if you send out a well thought out, properly written sequence of emails instead.

When the messages you send are all strategically focused on moving your readers further down the path towards buying from you, you’ll get a much higher conversion rate than just sending a single message and hoping for the best. A dedicated sequence of 3 to 7 emails such as this will regularly outperform a single message, sometimes by a factor of 20 to 1 or even more.

Product Launch Tip #3 – Be Ready For More Sales

An additional mistake business owners fall into all the time, even more so when using an email sequence like this that works so well, is not preparing themselves for an influx of buyers because the offer was so successful.

The main reason you send marketing messages is to advertise products and services, so it’s important you are prepared for an increase in demand when you run a promotion. This is important because prospective purchasers who need to wait to get their purchase may just head to one of your competitors who can fulfill their order straight away.

Product Launch Tip #4 – Talk Directly To Your Audience

And finally, one of the biggest and most costly email marketing mistakes we used to be guilty of here at Product Launch Strategy is not customizing your messages so they use the words people in your unique target audience use when they are talking amongst themselves.

This is a huge problem because your company’s email marketing will almost certainly be less profitable if you aren’t talking to your readers in a language they understand. If you send an email message to a big group of subscribers who are not targeted, you are going to be sorely disappointed.

But if you send a very targeted message sequence to a smaller, much more targeted group of readers who all have an interest in solving the same problem, you can present the products you are promoting as the solution, and you will do do a whole lot better.

That really is the most important mistake people make, and the reason why it’s so important to send your messages to people in your target market and tailor them to fit your own audience. That way you are talking directly to your best prospects, and your offers will be closely tied to them and their desires.

If you’d like to learn how to do advanced email marketing that virtually hypnotises your audience to to a buying frenzy, then check out these Product Launch Formula videos.
