Today’s 5 Most Profitable Product Launch Strategies

In this post we’re going to look at the 5 most profitable product launch strategies Jeff Walker teaches inside his Product Launch Formula program, and we’ll look at when you should use each one based on where you are in your business right now.

The 5 Primary Product Launch Types are:

  • The Seed Launch
  • The Internal Launch
  • The Joint Venture Launch
  • The Quick Launch
  • The Evergreen Launch

Depending on your goal and the products and services you sell, you could be considering one of these launch types to test the waters, or you could have several of them underway at the same time.

So let’s take a look at each of them in more detail, starting with:

The Seed Launch

The Seed Launch is great when you are just getting started with a new idea, and you want to create a product you KNOW your market wants to buy.

It’s also good option if you have no email list (or a small list), because it can help you build a list of prospects and buyers quickly. So basically it’s a way you can get your first list and your first product, and it’s also a great way to create a new product anytime.

Next up we have the bread and butter strategy of the Product Launch Ecosystem:

The Internal Product Launch

The Internal Launch is where we use the classic Sideways Sales Letter which consists of 3 pieces of Prelaunch Content spaced out over a few days or a week, leading into a sales video or sales letter where you open your shopping cart and start selling your product or service.

The Internal Launch (learn more about the Internal Product Launch here) gives you the opportunity to create and test your Prelaunch Content in a relatively save environment (because you are launching to your own prospects and customers), so you can prove your marketing in preparation for the next step, which is:

The Joint Venture (JV) Launch

Once you’ve completed your Internal launch, hardened your systems in preparation for an massive increase in website traffic, and proven your sales process converts, it’s time to bring in Joint Venture partners and affiliates to drive traffic to your Prelaunch Content and run your Joint Venture Launch.

The JV Launch is like pouring fuel on a fire because you can grow your email list super fast and generate a bunch of sales quickly. For many marketers, the list-build is the most valuable part of a JV Launch, because when you do it right you can generate thousands of new leads and paying customers who you can sell to over and over again in the future.

Then we have:

The Quick Product Launch

The Quick Launch is a way to generate an influx of sales and cash quickly based around an event or a deadline. It’s quick, simple and very easy.

You just have to have an offer for a product or service, and an email list to promote to.

It’s very different to a Seed Launch or Internal Launch because it’s email only (no Prelaunch Content required), is story based, and you can make a lot of money quickly and easily, usually in just 3 to 5 days.

And finally, there’s:

The Evergreen Launch

Once you’ve proven your marketing funnel converts using an Internal Launch (or a JV Launch), you can take all of that content and set it up as a recurring sales system so when people join your email list, they go through their own personal version of your Product Launch

Having an Evergreen Launch makes your cashflow much more consistent because people are going through the process consistently based on when they join their list.

These work very well with paid traffic, so they are a great way to build your list and generate sales consistently over time.

So there you have the five PRIMARY types of launches taught in Product Launch Formula. Jeff has kept adding new versions of these, but these 5 are your bread and butter when using his PLF system.

Each type of launch will suit you at different times, and the one you use first will depend on where you are right now in your business.

The Secret Behind The 9 Word Email

In this previous post I shared Dean Jackson’s 9 Word Email technique for reviving dead leads.

I hope you had a chance to test it out in your business (please let me know what happened if you did).

But there’s an even bigger payoff from this idea hiding in plain sight.

That payoff is taking the format Dean uses in this Postcard and applying it to your business.

So let’s run through the process for creating your own Postcard (or Facebook Ad, Google Ad, blog post, Facebook post, direct mail piece, or display ad for your brick and mortar store).

9 Word Email

Okay, let’s get to work.

The first two paragraphs contain what we call a ‘Thought Reversal’.

In other words, Dean shares the results of a study showing only 15% of new leads will buy within the first 90 days.

And that most people consider people who don’t buy right away as ‘bad leads’ or ‘tyre kickers’.

But the fact is most people NEVER buy immediately, or even within a few weeks of initial contact.

This is something people either don’t understand, or goes against what many believe.

Then he shares the simple idea of going through your lists of people who contacted you over 90 days ago, and following up with them to see if they are still interested.

The best way to do this is to reference their previous correspondence to remind them of why they contacted you, and ask them if they are still in the market by using the 9 Word Email.

Then Dean includes some proof statements to show the effectiveness of this idea, followed by an explanation of why it works so well.

Finally he invites you to learn more, including how to follow up with people who reply to your 9 Word Email, sample subject lines to test, case studies, and more.

This type of information marketing is so powerful because it helps you make invisible prospects visible.

People who are interested will put their hand up and request more information without the risk of having a salesperson call and try to ‘close’ them on something.

And your followup information can help them make an informed decision on whether they want to go further with you when they are ready.

People will buy in THEIR timetable, now ours.

Our job is to be there for them when they are ready to make a purchase.

Getting people subscribed to an email list using marketing like this is a long-term strategy that will help you to make sales for years into the future when done right.

How To Use The Product Launch Formula For A Service Business

A little while back I was asked to help a brand new Pet Vacation business quickly generate qualified leads, and using the Product Launch Formula process worked like a charm.

You know, sometimes the easiest way to sell a horse is to simply run an ad that says, ‘Horse for Sale’. Here’s how we used that idea to launch a new service business to profitable within a month.

Working with the owners we created a compelling offer for new customers (they didn’t actually have any current customers yet) which included one free night’s pet accomodation plus some special bonuses like pet toys along with samples of pet products and other related services.

We started running Facebook ads offering this package to people who said they owned pets and who lived within 50km of their business. The campaign started generating leads immediately for less than $1.00 per email subscriber which was extremely cheap at the time.

PRO TIP: The secret most people don’t understand is that offering a Coupon for a free night’s pet accomodation is the same as putting an ad that says, ‘Horse for Sale’ in front of thousands of horse buyers.

Because we called out to a very specific prospect, we were only attracting people who were looking for somewhere safe to leave their pet.

In other words, you are advertising for BUYING INTENT so you attract people who are ready to buy the exact product or service you are advertising.

The Product Launch Sequence

I wrote a simple 4 message Product Launch Content email sequence (no video, just plain text emails) introducing the owners of the Pet Minding centre and sharing their heart-felt back story about how they had come to develop the centre.

Over a few days I introduced each member of the staff and talked about their passion for caring for pets. I also used stories and images to help prospects imagine how much fun their pets would have during their next ‘vacation’.

The upshot of this was in each email we also invited readers to use their Free Night Coupon and the centre was immediately booked solid for weeks in advance. And while people used their Coupon to get one free night, most of the bookings were for between 3 and 14 days at FULL PRICE.

This allowed the centre to become wildly profitable from paid advertising from the FIRST sale, and because they do such a fantastic job of looking after people’s pets, clients have continued to return over and over again ever since so their backend profits are simply breathtaking.

How To Leverage Your Product Launch

The Pet Sitting centre has developed joint venture partnerships will all kinds of businesses selling related but non-competitive products and services, and is profiting from both offering other people’s stuff to their ever growing list of email subscribers, but also having their partners offer their customers a Free Night’s Pet Sitting Coupon.

The centre shares some of the initial booking fees with their partner, and then keeps all of the backend sales and profits for themselves.

This powerful, symbiotic relationship is something any business can replicate with just a little planning, persistence and implementation.

Your Product Launch Emails & Getting People To Click

One of the most important aspects of using the Product Launch Formula process to launch your product, service or business is being able to get people to read your messages and then click on the links in your product launch emails to visit your content.

The whole idea of using pre-launch content (referred to as PLC) is to share the story of your product and why people should ultimately buy from you is to move them from the email to your website where they can consume the content.

But what is the best way to encourage people to read your message and then click through? Here are the steps to achieving that:

Determine the Big Benefit First

Before you write a single word of your teaser, you need to figure out the big benefit of the content. Your reader is going to be thinking, “Why should I click on this link?” – and your teaser needs to answer that question.

Remember to Keep it Short

A teaser may be as short as one line, all the way to several paragraphs. You want to keep it short so that even the most time-pressed subscriber or the person with the shortest attention span will read and act on the teaser. You’ll get examples in just a few moments.

Hook the Reader

A good teaser captures and holds your readers’ interest, and often it arouses curiosity too. This starts with your email subject line, as it needs to be intriguing enough to get your audience to open your email. Then your short teaser needs to be intriguing enough to get readers to click on your link.

Create a Compelling Call to Action

Your reader is hooked, so you drop the link in the end of the email. But don’t assume they’ll click the link. Sure, some people will click on it. But in order to get the highest conversion rate, you need to specifically tell people to click the link and take the desired action.

Here are a couple examples that show you how to create short, benefit-driven teasers with calls to action:

Example 1:

Let’s suppose you want people to click through to your PLC to learn about copywriting. Here’s an example teaser email…

Subject line: The secret of million-dollar sales letters…

Hi [Name],

There’s one little thing that the world’s best copywriters do that no one else does (not even you). And this one little thing is what creates million-dollar sales letters.

What’s the secret? That’s what you’ll find out in today’s blog post. Read it here:

This example presented a big benefit (learning how to create a million-dollar sales letter), and it aroused curiosity to get people to click through. The curiosity started in the subject line with the word “secret.” It continued in the body of the email by using the word “secret” again, and arousing curiosity about what that “one little thing” is that the best copywriters use.

Finally, this example also created a sense of urgency (which is one of the critical Mental Triggers Jeff teaches in PLF) at the end to get people to click the link now (rather than put it off for later). This works if the sense of urgency is genuine. In other words, don’t create “false” urgency just to get the click. Always be upfront and honest with your audience. As I like to say, offer HOPE, not hype.

Next…

Example 2:

Let’s suppose you’ve created a pre-launch video that shows beginners the easiest way to set up a blog. Here’s an example of what your teaser may look like:

Hi [Name],

Every time someone talks about setting up a blog, they throw a lot of technical mumbo jumbo at you. It’s confusing and overwhelming, especially if you’re not a techie.

This example showcases the benefit that non-tech people really want – an EASY way to set up a blog. The email starts off by empathising with the reader, and then goes on to say there’s a fast and easy way to do it, and the reader can learn about it for free by clicking the link.

Conclusion

As you work through your Pre-pre-launch, Pre-launch and launch emails, there will be plenty of instances when you need to craft a teaser that gets people to click through to your Product Launch Content. Use the ideas and examples above to start creating more effective teasers that get your readers to click through to your launch content.

How To Leverage Your Product Launch List To Double Your Profits

One of the biggest benefits you’ll get from running a Launch based on the Product Launch Formula process is the way you can leverage your product launch list to double your profits as you go through the pre-launch and launch process.

This works out especially well if you use a JV Launch where you have other people send you their prospects in exchange for a referral fee when somebody they sent buys your product.

Now having built your list with a launch, one of the keys to leveraging this asset is to continue to put popular offers in front of your audience after your launch is complete. It’s usually best if you sell your own products and services because these tend to put the most gross profit in your pocket.

But not everybody on your list will buy your stuff (in fact probably only 10% of them will) but those people are always buying other products and services related to what you sell. So why not find out what else they are buying and let them buy it from you instead of somebody else?

And the great thing about promoting great products as an affiliate is that anything you earn is 100% profit. The merchant takes and processes the order, looks after customer support, manages any refunds, and does all of the backend stuff required to make the sale.

Then they send you a cheque or pay you via Paypal. Pretty cool gig.

Even if the product sells well and gets good reviews, read and use it yourself to be sure it’s something you’ll be proud to promote. The best products and services to promote are those you use and love personally. Things you can talk about honestly and be happy promoting.

Research the Vendor

If you’re unfamiliar with the seller, search their name and business name in Google to be sure they have a good reputation in the niche. Avoid anyone with red flags such as poor customer service, poor quality products, not paying affiliates, using black hat marketing and so on. It’s your reputation on the line here. Be careful to protect it and always work in your customer’s interests.

Check the Sales Page

Now you need to take a look at the sales page. First, check that it looks professional and is well-written. You might also ask the vendor what sort of conversion rate it’s getting.

Secondly, be sure there aren’t sales leaks or attempts at commission hijacking. These are any unnecessary links or promos that are likely to dampen conversions.

For example, if a popup window appears that offers a discount if someone clicks a link, check if that link still rewards you (the affiliate).

Another example: if there is a one-time offer or other upsell/cross-sell, be sure your affiliate link doesn’t get stripped if people take advantage of these offers.

Another example: check the sales page for payment options that don’t track and credit affiliates. Some people will do whatever the can to screw affiliates. We don’t want to work with these people.

If the product checks out, then move to the next step…

Offer a Valuable Bonus that Enhances the Product

If you look around your niche, you’ll notice that you certainly aren’t the only person who’s promoting this particular offer. In fact there may be dozens or even hundreds of others all promoting the same thing.

And while the vast majority of these people aren’t really “true” competition (since most just throw a banner up on their site and call it day), you definitely will have SOME competition. If you want to generate sales, then you need to stand out from these other serious affiliates.

How? By offering a bonus to anyone who purchases the product through your affiliate link.

TIP: You should also work to stand out in a broader sense, by becoming a trusted “gatekeeper” who only promotes solid offers and who only sends the best content to your list.

The keys to a good bonus are as follows:

• It’s in-demand. As always, do your market research to see what your audience wants.

• It’s valuable. This should be something that your market would eagerly pay for (in some cases, it may even be something that you currently sell that you’re offering for free)

• It’s easy to deliver. Ideally, it should be a digital product that you can deliver to your customers automatically.

• It’s highly related to the main offer. This is the most important key to offering a bonus – it should be something that actually enhances the users’ experience of the product and makes the entire offer more valuable.

For example, if the main offer is an organic gardening guide, you might offer a pest-identification and eradication video. Or if the main offer is a dieting membership site, you might offer a free set of low-calorie cookbooks that fit in with the dieting guidelines being taught inside the site.

Your bonus could take a variety of forms, including membership site access, private group access, ebooks/reports, videos, audios, tools (such as worksheets, checklists, templates and similar), software/apps, and similar.

Note: High-value bonuses like personal coaching are likely to create plenty of conversions, but they may also create a time crunch for you. If you do decide to offer a service, then make sure you only promote it with high-ticket offers, and you may also limit the number available so that you don’t fall behind.

Now the final step of the “P.O.P.” formula…

Presell the Offer

It took me YEARS to truly understand how to pre-sell effectively, but when done correctly it is an extremely powerful strategy. Even if the product has a pretty good sales page that makes an irresistible offer, you still need to warm up your audience before they land on the sales page. You do this by telling your audience about the emotionally-charged benefits they will get when they order, as well as the additional benefits they will receive when they buy with your bonus included.

Here’s the key: don’t just send out one email and expect a bunch of sales. Instead, create a series of three to five emails promoting the affiliate offer.

For example, you might send out a series that looks like this:

Email 1: Introduces the offer, shares the benefits, and promotes your bonus. (Note: oftentimes product vendors will create “copy and paste” emails for you to use. You can go ahead and use these, but make sure you tweak them to personalise them to your voice and for your audience.)

Email 2: Share proof that the product works. Ideally you’ll share your own case study of how well the product works, the results you had, and how your life is better now than it was before.

Email 3: “Last call” email. If there is any sort of special offer going on (such as a Product Launch special), then send an email reminding people the special ends soon. Otherwise, you can use this email to announce your bonus might be going away (at least temporarily), or to cover benefits not mentioned elsewhere or answer frequently asked questions about the product.

TIP: For best results, analyze the product to determine what objections may have to purchasing the product, and then raise and answer those objections within this email. Whenever possible, offer a bonus that helps minimise or even better remove the objections people have for buying.

For example, let’s suppose you’re promoting a dieting guide. And let’s further suppose that one common objection is that busy parents say they don’t have time to cook healthy meals. You can offer a bonus of a cookbook with quick, easy and delicious meals. Not only does this cookbook make a great bonus on it’s own, it effectively handles the “too busy” objection.

Conclusion

Selling affiliate offers is a great way to make money with your newsletter or as stand-alone email campaigns a few times each month. Just be sure to use the sales POP system to pick high quality products, offer an awesome bonus, and presell the offers so people truly understand the benefits and RESULTS they can expect to get when they become a customer.

How To Attract People To Your Product Launch Using Social Media

Learning how to attract people to your product launch using social media and then capturing their details on an email database before sending them to your Pre Launch Content is a time-tested and proven way to make sales.

Having said that, it’s not always easy and there are plenty of traps. Here’s what we’ll cover in this post to help you optimise your results:

• Choosing Your Platforms
• Understand How Social Media Works

Let’s jump in…

Choose Your Platforms

The first step is to choose which social media platforms you’ll focus on. The top options include:

• Facebook
• Twitter
• LinkedIn
• YouTube
• Instagram
• Pinterest

The idea is to focus on two or maybe three platforms that will be most beneficial to your business. You need to consider two things:

• Where does your audience congregate? This is the most important factor to consider when deciding which platforms to use. You’ll need to do some research such as finding out the key demographics of people on the various platforms, as well as looking at your competitors’ pages on these sites to see where they get the best results (shares, comments and other interaction).

• What type of content do you intend to post? For example, if you intend to post a lot of videos, then obviously YouTube should make your list. On the flip side, if you’re not interested in posting photos, then Instagram isn’t a good choice.

Once you know where you’re going to post, then move to the next step…

Understand How Social Media Works

While your newsletter is basically a monologue, social media is different because it works best when you create a dialogue with your followers. This means you can’t just blast out content and then ignore any interaction you receive. You need to be ‘social’ if you want to encourage people to engage and interact, and then interact directly with your followers.

This means doing things such as:

• Liking replies to your content.
• Replying to comments. (As your followers grow, you won’t be able to reply to everyone, but you should seek to post a few replies on every post.)
• Sharing/retweeting your follower’s content.

In other words, build relationships by engaging with your audience in a real dialogue (instead of a monologue).

Create Content That Gets Clicks

Now that you’re on the right platform and prepared to engage with your audience, the next thing you need to know is how to create content that gets clicks, shares, and comments. Take a look at these tips…

Give People What They Want

In order to figure out what they want, you’ll need to do some market research to find out what sort of content your audience tends to respond to the best. In addition to your regular market research (such as seeing what products people are buying), you’ll want to check out your competitors’ social media pages.

Pay attention to two things:

1. The general topic for the content. Do you see any sort of pattern? For example, if you’re in a dieting niche, do people tend to respond best to nutrition-related posts versus exercise-related posts?

2. The general format for the content. For example, does the audience seem to like memes? Videos? Infographics? Tips posts? Etc.

Ensure It’s a Quick Read Or View

People on social media don’t usually have time to read overwhelming pieces of content. That’s why you want to create content that people can read or view quickly, ranging from a meme that takes a second or two to read, to a video that perhaps takes two or three minutes (tops) to watch.

Craft an Enticing Title

People often decide whether to read or watch something based on the title, which is why you need to develop benefit-driven titles. If you can arouse curiosity, that’s good too. E.G., “The Conversion-Doubling Trick That Takes Just Two Minutes!”

Create Something Unique

People aren’t going to share your content or click through to your website if you’re sharing stuff that looks like every other piece of content on the web. That’s why you need to create something unique.

This can be as simple as sharing a unique story (such as an inspirational video), or even just a single little-known tip. It doesn’t have to be groundbreaking – it just needs to be somewhat uncommon.

Generate Positive Feelings

Content that goes viral and gets other interaction (such as likes, loves, cares and clicks) tends to generate emotion, especially positive emotion. A good goal is to create something that makes people say “Wow!” or “Awww!” or “That’s heartwarming!” or “That’s awesome!”

Encourage People to Interact

If you want people to share and comment on your content, then ask them to do something.

For example, if you’re looking for comments, then ask questions or encourage people to share information, for example, ask them:

• What do you think?
• What’s your favourite tip?
• Have you ever had an embarrassing moment like this?

If you’re looking for people to share, then centre your call to action around that goal. Something like:

• Share this with your friends, because these days they could probably use a smile!
• Know someone who [needs some benefit]? Share this now.
• Be a hero among your friends and family and share this with them.
• Please do me a favour and share this on your page – I appreciate it!
• Share this if you agree!

The big social media platforms are really useful when it comes to generating prospects for your Product Launch, but you need to have a plan in place in order to make the most of these platforms. That’s why you’ll want to put these ideas to work in order to build better relationships with people in your audience and generate more launch traffic.

How To Change The World With Your Book

Recently as Jeff Walker continued his training lessons in his Product Launch Masterclass, I received an email from an author and the answer I gave him could also help you to change the world with your book.

Now I personally feel his book is something everyone should read, but for it to have the maximum Impact, its message needs to be in the hands (and minds) of as many people as possible BEFORE the US election in November. It is literally that important…

In other words, wide distribution is critical and time is short.

With this in mind, I’ve copied in the essence of the message I sent him below, while removing any identifying information about the author or the topic to protect his privacy.

Here’s what I told him:

I agree the message in your book is critical for people to hear right now and should be available to as many people as possible. The US (and the rest of the West) is certainly heading down the wrong path. It is so sad to see such a wonderful country being torn apart like it is.

And what happens in the US eventually moves around the World…

Because millions of people need to hear your message before the election or the dark side is going to win, you will need some large and influential partners to help you promote your book and get the message out to enough people to turn the tide in the election in just a few weeks away.

You could do the normal book launch with book signings and interviews to sell a few thousand books (and make a few dollars) before the election, but because time is so short the opportunity for massive change will be lost.

The other (and much more powerful) strategy I see after listening to your interview where you said your mission is greater than selling a few books would be to find those large and influential partners and let them give their audiences a free copy of a downloadable PDF version of the book in exchange for those people joining an email database.

This could have many immediate and long term benefits, including:

  • Because most people don’t realise how dire the situation is, you might be able to get your book into the hands of enough people before the election to make a profound difference in the results once people realise how high the stakes are.
  • By asking people for their email address before they can download the PDF book, you could build a list of potentially millions of people with likeminded beliefs. I would imagine a group of people like this with a strong leader such as yourself could move mountains.
  • Many of those people would be interested in hearing from you on a regular basis and possibly supporting your cause, donating to your work, and/or buying all kinds of products and services you chose to recommend in the future.
  • A large email database could also help you to create a huge social media platform from which you can influence even more people.

Personally, if I had a message as important as yours and a limited amount of time to make meaningful change, I would be using the this second option.

Having said that, I’m not the best person to help you at the moment because I am going through my own launch and working with a couple of other people helping them with their businesses as well.
