How To Boost Your Product Launch Profits By Selling Affiliate Products

As you will have seen in Jeff’s Product Launch Formula training and in this article on running a Seed Launch, creating your own products, and then using a launch to release it, is the most reliable way to continue earning a great income.

But that’s only part of the story…

As we’ve talked about in the JV Launch post, one of the biggest benefits of a launch is the huge list-build you can do. When you have a group other people (your JV launch partners) sending you their best subscribers and those people are joining your email list, that gives you an incredible advantage both immediately and in the future.

The JV leaderboard in the lead generation contest for Jeff Walker’s Product Launch Formula launch shows that6 of the top 11 people on the leaderboard were dominating JEFF’S launch using the lists they built during their own launch. It’s proof that promoting affiliate products successfully can be a slam dunk once you’ve launched your own product.

Pretty cool eh?

So what these people are doing is what’s called an Affiliate Launch.

It’s not really discussed in the free training, but what it entails is using a sequence of email messages (often supplied by the merchant you are promoting) and ‘launching’ an affiliate product, even if that product has been around for years.

You use the same mental triggers to generate an incredibly high response.

Some of those triggers include:

  • Reciprocity
  • Anticipation
  • Social Proof
  • Proof
  • Community
  • Interaction and Conversation
  • Scarcity

…all interwoven into an event-based marketing promotion.

In the case of Jeff’s launch, the product is only available for a few days each year, so the scarcity for the product itself is real.

But you can still create the same scarcity for a product or service that is available all year by offering limited-time bonuses during your Affiliate Launch, and then removing the bonuses after the event is over.

Very cool…

Here’s How To ‘Launch’ (Or Re-launch) Your Business In The Wedding Industry

A lot of wedding industry professionals, service providers, retailers and wholesalers ask me how on earth they could possibly do a Product Launch Formula style launch if:

  1. Their wedding business has been around for a while and there’s nothing new to ‘launch’
  2. Their products and services aren’t new, and they have no plans to upgrading or adding to them
  3. They don’t have the budget to include a bunch of additional incentives with their offer to increase it’s perceived value

If you supply goods and services to the wedding market and this is your problem, the secret is to come up with a launch (or actually, a re-launch) plan that includes what Jeff calls a Crushing Offer.

And you do that by adding one or more of these things to what you are currently offering…

  • ‘Premium’ version of your product or service that includes additional features the standard version doesn’t
  • A package that could include, depending on what you supply, things such as videos, printed reports, digital guides, checklists, a personal website, software and/or cheat sheets that show your customers how to get more out of their wedding when they choose your product or service over somebody else
  • Discount coupons for additional products or services you provide that enhance or complement the main product or service people are purchasing from you
  • Special offers and discount coupons from OTHER merchants in the wedding industry that give your customers a chance to get a discount or extra services, AND let the other merchants have a new customer referred to them as well

When you offer bonuses like this, it makes it much easier for people to see how much extra value you provide, which can increase the number of people who choose you over any of your competitors.

Let’s look at a quick example

Say you supply Wedding Gowns and you’d like to run a product launch to generate a burst of sales during your slow season.

NOTE: Using a launch like this is a great way to pre-sell a bunch of wedding gowns well before they are required, so you can take a large deposit up-front, have plenty of time to create the gowns, and importantly, lock the customer in so they don’t go elsewhere.

You could approach all of the wedding businesses on the list below and ask them to give you coupons for discounted/free stuff in exchange for you reciprocating and helping them to promote their products and services to your customers as well:

  • Beauty Therapists
  • Bomboniere
  • Bridal Accessories
  • Bridal Expos

As you can see from this list, there are plenty of different businesses you could approach to work with.

Oh, and EVERY ONE of these businesses could become your Launch (and ongoing) Joint Venture partner.

That means you could have them sending your pre-launch content to their email subscribers and sharing it on their social media pages. And you could pay them a referral fee for each wedding gown you sell.

PLUS, EVERY single business above can do the same thing with all of the other suppliers on the list.

You are only limited by your ability to work collaboratively with your fellow wedding industry business owners and create win-win deals…

You could run a product launch like this 3 or 4 times a year, and promote the products and services of your Joint Venture partner’s businesses during the other months.

How To Change People’s Lives Using A Kick-Arse Product Launch

How To Create A Crushing Offer For Your Product Launch Formula Launch

The easiest way to make sure your product launch is a hit with your customers is to go all out and create what Jeff Walker calls a Crushing Offer.

So what is a Crushing Offer?

Here’s what Jeff says about it in his Product Launch Formula Mind Map

1 – Create an offer so strong it’s almost impossible to refuse. In other words, people would feel like an idiot for not taking you up on it.

2 – Give people what they want, because it makes everything a LOT easier for you

3 – Identify and answer objections during your launch content and forget about using any kind of “hard sell”

The idea is to make your launch offer so compelling that it’s easier for people to say yes than it is to say no.

The thing you’re launching should give your new customers everything they want to solve a problem they’ve told you they have, or achieve an outcome they told you they wanted to achieve.

And as you’ll recall, you learned how to find out exactly what they want by surveying them both BEFORE you started your Seed Launch, and then each week as you rolled out your Seed Launch to get feedback and gauge how your students were going.

That way you know your potential customers are going to be salivating over the prospect of getting their hands on your awesome new product as soon as you release it.

As Jeff says, rather than overwhelming people with a bunch of stuff in an effort to give your product a ‘Thud Factor’, when you find out exactly what people want to buy, and you make them an irresistible offer for it, you don’t have to ‘sell’ them on buying.

They naturally want to give you money to get the solution you KNOW they are after because they told you what it was.

Understanding The Strategy Behind Product Launch Formula

The beautiful thing about using a product launch, instead of doing what most businesses do which is try to grow one customer at a time, is you stop using what Jeff Walker calls ‘Hope Marketing’…

… and start using a proven system for generating a bunch of new leads (people who you can market to later on if they don’t buy straight away) and sales (which give you money to spend and use to grow your business now).

The way you’ll be doing that is to create a structured sequence of pre-launch content (which ideally should be in the form of videos with accompanying PDF documents, but it doesn’t have to be) that teaches people a number of valuable techniques or insights that:

How To Do A Seed Launch Step By Step

As Jeff Walker teaches in his Product Launch Formula training, the first launch you should do if you don’t have a list or a product is a Seed Launch.

The Seed Launch is AWESOME if:

  • You’re just starting out and you don’t have a list or product.
  • You’ve got an existing business and you want to test out a new idea.
  • You want to get paid before you actually create the product.
  • You’re a “perfectionist” and you’re having a hard time ever finishing your products.

Here are the quick steps you’ll be taking in your Seed Launch

Step 1: Gather your initial Seed list

Start to gather a small Seed List with a simple squeeze page to collect email addresses in exchange for a Lead Magnet or some premium content

Send a personal email to everybody you know telling them you are starting a newsletter on ______ topic,and asking them if they’d like to receive it.

Publish or post ideas related to your topic on social media channels including groups related to your niche market.

Once you’ve gathered 100 email addresses, continue to Step 2.

Step 2: Put together a simplified Sideways Sales Letter

See video 1 in this series if you need a refresher on the Sideways Sales Letter.

Your simplified Sideways Sales Letter doesn’t have to be fancy, and it doesn’t have to be video… it can be a series of emails or social media posts.

Make an offer for a series of 3-7 group coaching calls where you deliver your content on a one-to-many format.

Step 3: Deliver your content over a series of webinars or teleseminars

Split your topic area into a series of sub-topics, and teach one for each call.

Before the first call, send out a super-short survey to find out the top questions on that sub-topic so you know what your students want to know the most.

Use the survey responses to plan what you need to cover on the first call.

Repeat the surveys after each call asking what additional questions they have on the upcoming sub-topic. Use the questions to plan the call.

Record everything, get it transcribed, and package your recordings and transcripts into a product.

Then you’re ready to do an Internal Launch to the people on your email database who didn’t participate in your Seed Launch training.

How To Start With A Seed Launch & Grow Your Business From There

The very first product launch I did in 2008 was a Seed Launch’, which as you’ll recall is Step 2 in our 5 Steps To A 6 Figure Product Launch process:

At the time, I had been selling all different products as an affiliate, with one in particular bringing in around 80% of my income.

The Seed Launch was to create a multi-week coaching program to help people who purchased that affiliate product get better results, and I had around 40 students who paid $37 each go through the launch with me.

So I made the princely sum of $1480 (less payment processing fees) for 4 weeks of ‘work’ which worked out to be a total of around 10 hours.

Not really a big deal.

But here’s the thing…

Having that completed product enabled me to give it away as a bonus to EVERY person who purchased the affiliate product through my link.

And that (along with a small amount of personal email coaching) helped me to make thousands of dollars in commissions every single month for more than 5 years…

…until the merchant changed their affiliate program rules and killed the thing dead (there’s a long, sad story of ineptitude and stupidity on their part; I’ll tell you about that another day…).

So that’s one way to use a Seed Launch, but there are lots of others.

How To Raise Your Prices Regardless Of Your Competition

The beautiful thing about holding a product launch (even if your product or service itself is not actually ‘new’), is that because of the way your launch becomes an event (instead of merely a promotion), you can significantly raise your prices.

That’s because by giving away tremendous value through your pre-launch content, adding a range of bonuses to also increase value, and positioning your product or service as the obvious choice to solve the problem your prospects have, you are demonstrating the value you are offering in exchange for their money.

I’ve seen products that originally sold for $197 or $297 being sold for $997 or even $1997 through a product launch.

Are the people buying at the higher price being ripped off?

Occasionally, but the fact is if you can prove the your product or service offers much more value than the price, you’re sweet.

Also, the previous price may have been artificially low as a way of getting customers quickly, or because it contained less, or was not as high a quality, or a whole host of other reasons.

The thing is, most people NEVER buy based on price.

They buy based on VALUE.

If you can position your product or service as offering superior value than your competitors’, then you win.
