Why You Should Segment Your Optins BEFORE Your Product Launch

One of the easiest things you can do to make more sales during your next product launch is to segment your optins BEFORE they join your email database.

That way you can send very targeted email messages to each group, based on what they told you they were most interested in.

Here’s an example from a recent launch I participated in. You can see in the screen-shot below that people were segmented into three groups:

  1. I’ve never really used online marketing but I can see the value in it.
  2. I’ve played around with marketing online but haven’t fully committed to it.
  3. I use online marketing but am not getting the results I want.

Product Launch Lead Segmentation

This segmenting process allows you to send people to THE SAME launch content, but change the context they see that content in.

As an example, you can use an email message to introduce the first pre-product-launch video to people who have never used online marketing (Group 1) by saying:

In your first video, you’ll see how powerful online marketing for your business, and why you really can’t ignore the opportunity it presents any longer. You can watch the video by visiting this page.

The email sequence for Groups 2 & 3 (people with some or lots of experience) would contain different messaging to reflect their experience and worldview.

This way, you can get maximum leverage from the same product launch content by talking to potential customers in a language that resonates with them.

The Single Biggest Product Launch Mistake (And How To Avoid It)

Product Launch Formula ReviewOne of the biggest mistakes business owners make before they launch a new product or service is not doing enough market research to find out what people truly want to buy.

That’s why the first rule for any Product Launch is this: Find Out What Your Customers REALLY Want

There’s simply no point in creating and launching a product that nobody wants to buy. Most business owners do at least some market research during the start up phase of their business.

But after that, it’s easy to get sidetracked. Sometimes many of us are in a hurry to get things out there, which means we launch products and services without ever really seeing if the market wants or needs them.

You see, some of the easiest money you’ll ever make is when you create or source products and services that hordes of people your market are ALREADY buying.

Then all you have to do is create a similar product (no copying or staling of course!) and put it in front of your prospects and customers. And the best way to do that is by using a product launch.

So how do you find out what your market is already buying?

There are a number of ways, but here’s two of the best:

Survey your existing prospects and customers and ask them what their biggest ________ problem is right now.  Just enter the type of market you serve where I’ve put __________ and ask them.

And when your people tell you what their biggest problems are, find the most pressing, or the one with the largest number of of people experiencing it, and then create or source and launch a product or service to serve that need.

The second way is to run a search in the Amazon.com marketplace for your general keyword (like “gardening”), and sort by “bestselling” products. If you see a few similar products dominating the first few pages of results, that’s a pretty good sign that the product is popular.

Bonus product launch tip: Another way to find out what’s hot is to follow the money.

Marketers don’t pour advertising dollars into products that aren’t selling. So look at pay per click ads on Google, ads in your local newspaper, ads in niche magazines, banner ads on big sites and similar paid advertisements to see what’s being sold.

Once you’ve found the perfect product or service idea based on what people in your market are clamouring to buy, create or source it and launch it to the starving crowd. And sit back and watch the money go into your bank account…

The #1 Shortcut To Creating Profitable Products

Everybody wants a shortcut. We want to lose weight faster. We want an easier way to improve our golf game.

The list is long and varied. Whatever ultimate end result we are striving for, we want to reduce the time and effort it takes to get there.

 So What’s Product Launch Formula All About?

Product Launch Formula is a coaching program that was originally created by Jeff Walker in around 2006, after he realized there had to be a better way to sell products and services than was currently being used at the time.

He created Product Launch Formula to help all kinds of businesses in increasing their sales and profits by turning typical run-of-the-mill product promotions into ‘Events’ that generated buzz and social proof around the product being promoted. In the program teaches you how to use what he calls his ‘sideways salesletter’ to boost conventional conversion rates of around 1-2% to 5% – 10 and in some cases, even more.

The Big Idea taught in the PLF training is to share a series of educational pieces of content that actually help people, instead of simply bombarding prospects with self serving pitches. That old way of selling just doesn’t work that well any more because while people love to buy things, they are totally sick of being sold stuff. At the end of your educational content, you make an offer at the end of this process that helps people go a lot further than what they learned in the free content.

There are lots of nuences to doing a profitable launch of course, and Jeff covers all of them as he takes you through the Product Launch Formula training. So who’s PLF for? Honestly, there probably aren’t a lot of businesses that couldn’t use at least some of the strategies Jeff teaches. And many businesses could use the entire system over and over again throughout the year to really boost sales.

There are a lot of things to like about Product Launch Formula.

  • Module 3 shows you how to Create Your Launch Story, how to develop your Prelaunch Content, and looks at The Seed Launch, which is where you do a small launch to just a small list to test your system and generate an initial burst of sales. You can use the money you make from the Seed Launch to fund your product development, or purchase more stock. Then you are ready to roll out an Internal launch and even a big JV Launch knowing what kind of results you can expect to get for your partners
  • In Module 4, Product Launch Formula looks at Launch List Secrets, Planning Out Your Launch Content, and Joint Ventures in detail. He also includes a bunch of extra goodies like a lesson on how to look after your health during a launch, and a case study interview with John Gallagher which is very enlightening
  • Module 5 takes you through The Actual Launch Process, what an Affiliate Launch looks like, and the eCommerce Launch. Jeff also covers a lot more of the most important launch details to help you make your events as profitable as possible.
  • Module 6 rounds out the program by covering the most profitable Product Launch Formula, which is The Evergreen Launch. An Evergreen Launch allows you to build your launch system once, and then run it continuously on autopilot, so you can make money from the launch content you created over and over again.
  • You also get monthly live PLF Coaching Calls where Jeff personally answers all of your questions, and the much anticipated PLF Live Event, where you can network with other Product Launch Formula owners, create joint ventures and partnerships, and get new ideas on how to make more money in your business.

I’ve been a Product Launch Formula owner since version 2, which I think was around 2008, and the first internal launch I did (a test to a few hundred people) earned me double the price I’d invested in the product. Since then I have used what I learned over and over again, it’s still works just as these days as it did then.

And as you’ll see once you are a PLF owner, Jeff looks after us. He’s always sending us cool stuff, and he always gives existing customers free access to the latest version of Product Launch Formula whenever he makes an update.

His customer service has always been first class, and my questions have been answered quickly by intelligent people who can actually help you the first time.

What We Didn’t Like About Product Launch Formula

This wouldn’t be a very good Product Launch Formula Review if I didn’t point out the things I don’t like. Most obviously, this program ain’t cheap. That means that lots of people who could really benefit from the training will be locked out.

That’s not to say PLF isn’t worth the money. I easily paid for the course twice over within a few weeks with my first launch, so it’s certainly great value and the stuff you’ll learn you will have to use and profit from forever.

And here’s a big tip. If you wait to order until mid-way through the launch, you’ll most likely get an option for a multi-payment plan, so you can spread the payments out over the next few months.

The payment plan ends up being a little more expensive, but it’s much more affordable because you can start using what you learn right away, and you should be able to make some product sales before you have paid the full amount.

Another downside to PLF is there’s a LOT of information to go through, and that means it might be easy for some people to get overwhelmed. Even though Jeff ‘drips’ the content out to you over a few weeks, you have to stay on top of it or you’ll run the risk of fall behind.

What that can be a problem, it’s not really a deal breaker for most people, because you have lifetime access to the members area so you can go through everything at your own pace.

That means if you aren’t really serious about USING what you are going to learn from Product Launch Formula, it’s probably best to save your money. But if you are ready to start using a better approach to marketing and making sales, one that could make you 5 or 10+ times your initial investment fairly quickly, then PLF could be perfect for you.

And one final thing. Jeff takes the program off the market after each launch, so you only have one opportunity each year to get your hands on it. While that does make PLF exclusive, it sucks for people who tend to take too long to decide and miss out.

So if you miss out this time, it will be probably another year before the doors are opened up again. And that could literally cost you thousands of dollars in profits foregone if you decide to wait it out.

Overall Thoughts On Jeff Walker’s Product Launch Formula

All in all, Product Launch Formula is a first class training program that totally delivers on it’s promise of helping virtually any business owner who USES what he or she learns to increase their sales. Since you can’t just go out and buy Product Launch Formula most of the time, it’s probably a good idea to get it now.

I love it, and I’m sure you will too.

More information is likely to be distracting rather than helpful. Those “shiny” goodies will appeal to many emotionally charged buyers, and marketers prey on people’s emotions so they can win the big JV prizes on offer.

So what do you want when you buy Product Launch Formula?  Simple – you look for a bonus package that will fill in the missing steps that will take you to success.

Regardless of how good the information is…

…if you don’t put it to work, it won’t do you any good.

So whatever bonus package you go with, it would be nice to have some sort of feedback where you could show what you’re doing to somebody and get an answer to the question, “Am I on the right track?”

Now, it’s one thing to do this in a large community, which I’m sure Product Launch Formula will have if previous releases are anything to go by. It’s another thing to do it in a small, tight-knit community, where everybody is all on the same page.

Compare it to learning in an intimate class room environment compared to some massive university lecture hall. I think you’d agree you’ll get more one to one interaction in the intimate class.

Finally, and most importantly – knowing and doing are two separate things.  Just because you know all the steps to launch your product, what are the chances you’ll actually put those steps into action and make many times your investment in time and money back?

Well, generally –  not good. Studies show that over half the people who buy courses never finish them – and Product Launch Formula is a big course.

So whatever bonus you go with, it’d be smart if it had some sort of action plan. NOT just more information. I’m talking about a way to keep yourself focused so you can get realistic and yet great results!
