Product Launch Formula Basics: You MUST Presell The New Plan

One of the biggest reasons a Product Launch Formula launch fails to produce the kind of results we are expecting is that people don’t believe your product or service will help them.

And one of the main reasons for that is you haven’t Pre-Sold Your New Plan.

Your people would not be consuming your Product Launch Content if they didn’t think you could help them solve a problem or achieve a desired result.

In other words, they are using some type of existing PLAN that isn’t working for them. If their existing plan worked, they would not be looking for a solution.

The Sideways Sales Letter we use in a typical Product Launch is the perfect vehicle to explain why their current plan is not working, and how your NEW plan will give them the TRANSFORMATION they need to achieve their desired result.

Your new plan MUST BE SUPERIOR, DESIRABLE AND CLEARLY DIFFERENT to anything they have ever seen or heard before.

You must clearly show how is it different to the “competition” or others selling similar solutions in your marketplace.

If you can show people why their old Plan isn’t working, and why your NEW plan offers the solution they are looking for, it’s like adding a gob of Wallet Lube to your sales process.

You should NEVER ask the people going through your Product Launch to give you money until AFTER they are convinced your new plan will work for them.

Internal Launch Case Study – How To Use Product Launch Formula In The Trading Market

It doesn’t matter whether your business is a startup or you have been established for many years, you can use an Internal Launch as laid out in Product Launch Formula to generate a huge lift in sales and profits, help you build an email database of prospects and customers who will buy from you again in the future, and put your business on a solid footing faster than any other strategy.

And it doesn’t matter if your marketing has had less than stellar results in the past, or if you’ve taken the advice of so called ‘experts’ or a marketing agency that promised you the world and then handed you an Atlas, you can launch a brand new product profitably in one or two weeks instead of months or years.

In this post I’m going to share exactly how I used an Internal Launch to generate around $20 per subscriber in net profit over a period of 2 weeks using nothing but a few Facebook posts and an email sequence (which you will see in full below) to a small email list.

Using The Product Launch Formula Process To Launch An Information Product

Over the last few weeks I’ve been using the Product Launch Formula process to run an Internal Launch for a training program I created (using a Seed Launch) that teaches people how to use Technical Analysis on stocks, commodities, indexes and other markets.

If you’re not sure what Technical Analysis is, it’s using price charts to determine where the price of a stock or some other market is likely to go over the next few days or weeks. As you can imagine, it is a valuable skill to have and when you get it right it is possible to virtually create income at will.

Creating The Program Using A Seed Launch

I originally used a Seed Launch to create the course content where I offered 6 live Zoom Webinars with several follow up Zoom Q&A meetings. Some of my students have done exceptionally well, but others have struggled despite having my help to understand what to do.

Because the first live program was fun to do and was so well received, I ran it two more times. Both of these times I had new members sign up while existing members were allowed to join in free of charge.

By the third iteration, the content was nailed down and I had filled in any gaps I found in the knowledge I wanted to share as we went through the training.

Once the content was all edited and uploaded to a new membership site run on the Xperiencify Platform, I was ready to launch a higher ticket Mentoring Program where students get even more access to me in addition to all of the training created during the Seed Launches.

As you can see, the email is friendly and coming from a place of service. If you have any kind of relationship with people on your email list, in your Facebook Group, or your followers on social media, you can frame a similar message asking for their help and feedback.

We want to do this because we want to make sure of two things:

  1. That your audience feels a sense of ownership in the end result because they helped you to create the training or program, and
  2. We want to make sure we don’t leave anything critical out of our Pre Launch Videos or the product itself

It’s critical that people watch all of your PLC videos in the order you create them, because when they are done right they build on each other, leading your prospects seamlessly towards the conclusion they need to invest in your product or service if they want to solve their entire problem or achieve a complete solution.

Proof of Concept like this is critical if you want to sell anything for more than a few bucks. People knew that what I was sharing with them worked because I had given them undeniable proof. The idea behind this email was to stress how much certainty people could have once they understood how the market moved and they were able to apply what they would learn in the program.

The next day I sent another Case Study video showing something that was actually happening in the market right at that moment. Here’s that message:

In this post Trend Traders Club group yesterday https://www.facebook.com/…/tren…/posts/4355760191126085/ I said it looks like EUR/USD may have completed an abc correction at the 50% retracement.

In the first screen shot you can see the chart from that post (you can click on the either of the images to open a full size chart in a new window):

When I made yesterday’s post I wasn’t already long, the post was to alert everybody to the potential for an abc correction and counter trend low near the 50% retracement.

As I’ve said in the training videos, I am not a financial advisor or broker so this is as close as I can get to screaming BUY THE EURO without actually saying it.

Looking at the charts above, the market made its counter trend low right at the 50% retracement and then made a higher Swing high followed by a higher Swing low.

This is the very definition of an uptrend according to Gann.

I entered long with two seperate positions as the 1 hour Swing chart turned back up creating the first higher low (Gann said “The safest place to buy is the first higher low).

As you can see, those entries are taken at the first higher low of the first higher low after a 50% retracement.

This is a high probability setup with very low risk because the stop loss is just below the Wave 2 or B Swing low.

The Euro now looks like it is rallying in a 5 Wave trend and the fact that the minor Wave 1 was taken out within just 2 bars indicates it is a minor Wave 3 of 3.

Because the trend looked so strong, I took an additional position just after the minor Wave 1 high was exceeded.

Everything you’ve learned in the recent training videos is on display here in real life in real time…

  • The initial entries right at the start of the current uptrend
  • Taking some off the table at the end of Wave 1 or A
  • Entering again right at the 50% retracement as the uptrend resumed
  • Compounding into a strongly trending market

Of course we have no way of knowing what will happen next.

The market could turn around and go the other way.

However by treating every setup as just another opportunity in the INFINITE GAME it doesn’t matter what happens with this one.

There are thousands more to look forward to.

And because we are following a set of rules that have proven themselves over time, we will eventually be on board some major trends that last weeks or months…

On the chart you can see the initial TTC entry which as you know is the signal this stock was probably starting to trend.

After a minor correction to just above the .618 A2 rallied strongly again, pulled back in a 2-day counter trend, and today rallied to a new high for this move.

While anything can happen, at the moment this is the essence of a strongly trending stock.

This is exactly the type of thing we look for because price moves away from our entry quickly reducing our risk and allowing us to compound safely.

This final email resulted in 6 more members coming on board using the payment plan, and one more person who had been on the fence paying in full.

This is what you will usually see. When you open up your shopping cart you will have the super keen people join you right away. Then as you go through your Open Cart period a few sales will trickle in as long as you keep reminding people about your launch.

Then as your deadline approaches you will see a burst of sales, with a final flurry just before the Shopping Cart closes. There’s nothing like a deadline to force people to make a decision.

How To Convert MANY More People Into Buyers

So that was the final email in the sequence and we’ll get to the results shortly, but first I wanted to share something that could really move the needle for you if you are selling a product or service that is medium to high ticket.

As you will have seen in PLC video 4 and in some of the emails, rather than just giving people a ‘Buy Now’ link, I asked them to contact me by email and let them know they would have to complete an application if they wanted to join the Program.

I did this because I am guaranteeing their results and offering a full refund if I don’t perform, so I wanted to qualify people before I admitted them into my close knit community of very successful traders and investors.

I qualified each person through an email conversation and only admitted the people I was confident I could help to become successful.

The Conversational Close

Here’s an example of a typical email conversation thread so you can get the feel for how to do this if you’d like to model it. You can see how a friendly email conversation can turn a ‘No I can’t afford it’ into a ‘Yes, I’ve paid the first $200 today :-)’ by truly caring about a person and meeting them where they are…

That was the end of the process…

NOTE: By creating ‘Friction’ like this you could potentially reduce your response rate, but you will have better qualified, more committed clients and customers who do the work, get results, and don’t ask for refunds.

Some of the conversations were much shorter than the one with Stephen (EG. please send me the link), some were longer, but virtually every person I corresponded with in this way became a member.

You simply cannot get high conversion numbers like this by just putting a Payment link on a website and hoping for the best.

Can you see how powerful it is to find out what each person’s needs are and meet them if at all possible so they see joining your program as a no-brainer?

The Results

Below I’ve shared a screen shot of some of the orders of people who joined the Program. You can see the burst of orders on the last day when I announced the 6-pay plan.

Use Product Launch Formula

By the time it’s all said and done, this Internal Launch will generate around A$19,000 in net profit which is not bad considering I don’t have a large email list. It works out to around $20 per subscriber if all of the payment plan clients continue and pay all of their instalments.

The biggest benefit though is now that I have all of the Pre Launch Content and email messages created and tested so I know they convert, I can use them to put together an Evergreen Launch that will be able to generate sales day in, day out, indefinitely.

All it will take is running some ads to put people into the front-end of the funnel, and then have email (or Facebook Messenger or SMS) conversations with the people who are interested in joining. Plus I can run the live launch 3 or 4 times a year if I want to at a higher price (because they get access to me personally) to generate more clients.

Eventually I may run a JV Launch, but I’ll need to employ and train a couple of people to hold the email/messenger/SMS conversations with prospects because I Just won’t have time to do it all myself.

Things I Learned For Next Time

There are a few things I will do differently next time:

  •  I will send people to Facebook Messenger or use SMS for the Conversational Close because it can be more personal
  • I may trial a Chat Bot to pre-qualify people because the first message I sent out requesting more information was virtually the same for everyone
  • I will space the core PLC videos more closely together to keep the momentum moving along better
  • I will release the 6-payment program earlier because it probably cost me sales by leaving it to the last day
  • I will send more messages on the final day (I only sent one this time) because done right you can often double your sales in the last few hours of the last day. Jeff recommends 4 messages on the final day but it’s up to you if that sounds a little aggressive

Your 20-Point Product Launch Traffic Checklist

When you get to the point of using the Product Launch Formula process to run a big JV launch, the majority of your traffic is going to be coming from your JV partners and affiliates.

But when you are just starting out, or you’re planning for your Seed Launch or an Internal Launch, getting people to your website is going to be totally up to you.

And it doesn’t matte whether you’re using any number of the effective free methods for generating traffic, or setting up a paid advertising campaign, there are 20 steps you need to take to ensure your success. Here they are…

  1. See how each traffic method fits into your overall strategy

Before you even think about testing a new traffic source, the first step is to plan out your overall traffic and marketing strategy. Once you’ve got your plan in place, you’ll be able to make sure that any traffic method you use fits into your overall strategy.

The fact is if you want only highly targeted prospects to be exposed to your launch, some traffic sources (such as co-registration, sweepstakes and viral marketing campaigns) may not be the right fit for your overall strategy.

  1. Ensure the traffic method will create targeted visitors

As discussed above, people sometimes forget that particularly when you are launching a product or service, attracting people who are interested in what you are offering is the first priority. It doesn’t matter if you build a list of tens of thousands of subscribers if these visitors aren’t interested in consuming your content and ultimately buying from you.

So before you start a new campaign, ask yourself:

  • Where does this traffic come from, and are these people going to be pre-disposed to buying my product or service?
  • What are the demographics and psychographics of this audience and are they going to be my ideal customers?
  • Are they likely to have purchased a product or service similar to mine in the past, and they directly interested in what I’m going to be offering?
  1. Define your goals and determine how you’ll measure them

Next, decide on what your goal will be for this particular campaign. For example:

  • Is your aim to grow your mailing list?
  • Would you like to directly sell a product or service?
  • Are you trying to build your brand (not the best idea)?
  • Are you trying to get people to share your content?
  • Do you want people to pick up the telephone and call to book an appointment?
  • Do you want prospects to fill out a form?

Once you choose a goal, make sure your entire campaign is focused on achieving this goal.

  1. Make an educated estimate of the numbers

Now here’s something important: not only do you need to choose a goal, it needs to be measurable. In this step you should determine exactly how you’ll reach and measure your goal.

For example, if you want to sell a product directly, then make a conservative estimate of your conversion rate to work out how much traffic you’ll need to meet your sales goal.

Here’s a simple example: let’s suppose you want to make 20 sales. And let’s suppose you estimate your conversion rate to be typical for a text-based sales page at 1%. That means you make one sale for every 100 visitors, so you’ll need 2000 visitors in order to reach your goal of making 20 sales.

  1. Ensure your sales funnel is in place and tested

Even if your goal for this specific campaign is to sell a product directly (as opposed to building a list), your overall ad campaign will be more successful if your entire sales funnel (up-sell, down-sell, order page bump, etc.) is in place before you start the campaign. That way you can start making sales on the backend straight away.

  1. Review your landing page copy to make sure it’s compelling

Answer the following questions about your offer page:

  • Have you used a compelling headline (example – Here’s how to get [big result] in [short timeframe], without [stuff they hate]?
  • Have you used a bulleted list of emotionally charged benefits?
  • Does your copy evoke an emotional response in your prospects?
  • Do you offer UNDENIABLE proof of your claims?
  • Have you used a strong call to action?
  • Are there any money-leaks, such as unnecessary links leading people away from the sales page?

Once you’ve checked and fixed any problems, it’s time to…

  1. Check all your links and forms are working

Next, have a number of people go through the process of ordering, filling out a form or joining your mailing list (IE whatever your goal is) using different computers and browsers to be sure that everything works as it should.

  1. Create your ad

It doesn’t matter whether you’re using a pay per click ad, a byline or signature file at the end of a blog article, ads for your affiliates to use, or anything else to drive your traffic. Be sure your ad presents the biggest benefits upfront, telegraphs a result you know your prospects want, and arouses as much curiosity as possible.

  1. Use a strong call to action

Every piece of ad copy should tell prospects exactly what you want them to do next.

For example: “Click here to see why traders everywhere are so excited about this new way to earn monthly income from the markets!”

  1. Create your marketing graphics as needed

If you need graphics and you’re not sure how to create them yourself, then hire someone on Fiverr.com or UpWork.com to create simple yet polished graphics for you. 

TIP: Check out stock photo sites such as istockphoto.com and depositphoto.com to get your hands on good graphics, usually for a very low price.

  1. Write your autoresponder sequence messages

Whether you are selling products directly or generating leads, you MUST have an autoresponder sequence on the backend to either:

  1. Thank a new customer for their purchase, teach them how to get the most out of it, and then over time recommend related products to them
  2. Help your prospects solve part of a problem while recommending paid solutions that give them the full solution they are looking for

E.G. The 5 Secrets To Doubling Your Conversion Rates (email 1 of 5)

  1. Double check your emails for grammar and active links

Once your emails are finished, make sure you test they have:

  • Low spam scores that slide through the filters
  • Subject lines that compelling and click-worthy
  • Links inside the emails that work and take people to the correct pages
  1. Use testing and measuring tools

Before you run your ads, get your hands on testing tools to optimise your responses. These tools might include a simple A/B split testing tool like SplitTestMonkey.com, LeadPages.com A/B split testing function, or you might use more robust tools such as Piwik.org.

  1. Test small

When you are starting out with a brand new campaign, don’t invest all your time and money into one place. It’s always a good idea to start small and scale up as you get good results.

For example, if you’re buying a solo ad from somewhere like TrafficForMe.com, don’t just dump all of your ad money into one ad. Test multiple small ad buys across different newsletters instead. Then repeat your ad buys with those that get the best results.

  1. Tweak your campaign for better results

This includes:

  • Split testing and tweaking your ad creatives to be sure they’re converting optimally
  • Split testing and tweaking your landing page and funnel to be sure you’re not wasting the traffic
  1. Reinvest in the best ads and traffic sources

As you figure out what’s working for you the best, it’s time to reinvest both more time and more money in the best campaigns.

For example, if you’ve started an affiliate program and you have one or two super affiliates on your team, encourage them to perform even better by giving them special benefits such as higher commissions or access to other products.

Another example: if one of your pay per click campaigns is working really well, continue to grow the campaign and reinvest your profits to grow your business more quickly.

  1. Test every part of the sales process

You’re already testing your ads and landing pages, but it’s critical to test your backend too, including your up-sell and down-sell pages, your order page ‘bump’ offers, and your autoresponder emails.  Note:  Continue to add more email messages to your autoresponder to make ongoing, additional sales!

  1. Focus on ONE traffic source to start

When it comes to generating traffic, it’s important not to spread yourself too thin, especially at the start. For now, focus on this ONE traffic source, and work on optimizing your campaign for maximum profits.

  1. Tweak your plan

As your campaign progresses, ask yourself:

  • How well does is this traffic method fitting into my overall plan based on the results (or lack there) that are being generated?
  • What percentage of profits is this traffic method generating for my business?
  • What percentage of my resources should I continue to invest into growing this traffic method?

Hint: Spend 80% of your time and resources focusing on the 20% of traffic sources that generate the BIGGEST subscribers, conversions and profits for you. And spend the remaining 20% on testing new traffic strategies.

  1. Rinse and repeat with another traffic source

At this point you should have at least one traffic source that’s really working well. Now it’s time to rinse and repeat everything. Choose another traffic source, add it to your overall traffic strategy, and get to work maximizing conversions and profits.

How To Use The Product Launch Formula To Position Yourself As An Expert

The old advice we often received from self-help gurus of “fake it till you make it” (especially if you are running a big product launch formula style promotion), where you’re pretend to be an expert even if they aren’t one CAN work in some situations. The problem is that once you get exposed as a fake and a fraud in your market, there’s usually no way to come back from that.

So here’s what: you need to do to become a REAL expert so you can legitimately position yourself as the ‘go-to’ person in your market.

While some people refer to the 10,000 hour rule that says it takes 10,000 hours to become a true expert, depending on how narrow your niche market is (and the narrower the better, at least at the start, you CAN become a recognised expert much more quickly if you want too.

You can’t do it by just reading a few articles or watching a few Youtube videos, but you can go a long way to expert status by following these steps…

Step 1: Study Everything You Can Get Your Hands, Your Eyes And Your Ears On

The key here is to jump straight to the source and consume in-depth and unbiased information.

Say you want to become a copywriting expert. There’s plenty of copywriting information available for free online, or inexpensively in books, but most (but not all) of it just rehashed and repackaged from the original (and more recent) masters of direct response marketing.

So the secret to forming a good foundation is to go back to the original sources and learn directly from them. These sources include older masters like Robert Cialdini and David Ogilvy, and more precent examples such as Jay Abraham, Gary Halbert, Dan Kennedy, Clayton Makepeace and Gary Bencivenga.

Then once you have an understanding of the core fundamentals, stay on top of new and developing information based on the work of these masters.

Step 2: Experiment To See What Works In The Niche

Once you’ve absorbed as much source information as you possibly can, jump in and start testing the strategies you’ve learned yourself.

For example, using our copywriting market, start testing headlines, copy leads, different calls to action, your offer (as Jeff says, you’ll want to come up with a ‘crushing offer’), your order page (order page abandonment can be up to 90%!), your optin page and email sequence, and the rest of your funnel to see for yourself what really works.

In other words, don’t take anyone else’s word that something works. If you’re trying to position yourself as an expert for your product launch, it makes sense to find out what works for yourself before you start teaching it to others.

Teaching stuff that doesn’t work is a sure way to have a very short career as one expert. The internet is littered with scammers and marketers who over promised and under delivered. You don’t want to join them.

When you’ve proven things to your satisfaction, recruit a small group of people (you could call them ‘beta-testers’ or founding members) to help you by testing your ideas in their own markets (even if you give your product away or at a large discount).

This process also gives you real case studies and proof that your ideas work. Then you can honestly show how you’ve helped people solve real problems, giving you proof and social proof, which are two of the most powerful Product Launch Formula mental triggers.

This is so powerful because you’ll be able to share real results, examples and case studies from real world experience, and people can see that you’re not just theories and untested ideas.

Step 3: Develop Your Own Teaching And Delivery Style

Once you start experimenting and testing some of the ideas you’ve learned, you’ll want to start putting your own personal spin on these old methods. In other words, develop your own style when it comes to completing tasks and achieving goals in your niche.

Todd Brown talks about two critical features most new products and services need these days in an over-saturated and over-marketed to world.

These are what he calls The Big Idea, and The Unique Mechanism. I don’t have space to discuss these here, but check out Todd’s work on them and work out how you can incorporate both of them in your product launch, because combined they will make a huge difference to your results (in a good way) 🙂

Step 4: Condense Any Complex Concepts To Simple Steps Or Processes

By the time you’ve completed your studies and proven your ideas, you’ll be well on your way to becoming an expert in your market. Unfortunately, the problem for many true experts is they teach at such a high level, their students fail to benefit because they don’t understand the basics enough to grasp the higher level topics.

So one of the keys to truly becoming an expert who creates lasting change is your ability to simplify a complex concept to its most basic and simple parts – and then teach it to other people in an easy-to-understand way.

A lot of people get overwhelmed with information in a niche, especially when they are new to it. One of your jobs is to be able to show people what’s important and what to focus on, what to ignore, and what steps to take to achieve the results they are after. If you can succeed at this,  you’ll start to be seen as an expert in the eyes of your potential clients and customers.

And finally…

Step 5: Keep Yourself In The Loop

With change coming at us at such a rapid rate these days, it’s rare that you can learn something once and consider yourself an expert for life. You’ll need to continue learning and growing in your expertise so you can stay relevant. Thing are going to continue to change in every market, so you’ll need to change to capitalise on them.

To Sum Up…

You can’t expect to become an expert overnight, you won’t become one simply by reading, listening to podcasts or watching a few Youtube videos, and you certainly don’t stay one if you don’t stay current. But focusing down to a small but profitable area instead of trying to be all things to all people, and then using the 5 steps we’ve discussed in this article, can help you become a true expert in your field in much less than the legendary ‘10,000 hour rule’ demands.

And if you’re able to build a strong brand in the lead up to your launch, you’ll already have the necessary “top of mind” awareness to generate sales. If you’ve neglected your branding, your prospect is often going to feel like they can get what you are offering from one of your competitors.

To get awareness from people in your market, branding is very important. That’s why I’ve created this frequently asked question list with answers. Take a look…

Q: Some say a brand is about the feeling you get as a customer. What does this mean?

A:  This means that your brand should evoke the same feeling that your customers experience when they use your products or service.

For example, gourmet chocolatier Godiva is all about creating a feeling of sophisticated decadence an indulgence. From their golden wrappers to their writing style, to the gourmet products themselves, Godiva makes people feel special and indulged when they eat the chocolate (or receive iGodiva chocolate as a gift).

Now compare that to the branding of Mountain Dew, which is positioned to appeal to the “dudes” who like skateboarding, surfing, bungee jumping and extreme sports. Mountain Dew is all about creating excitement.

Q: What sort of factors does my branding entail?

A: The short answer: pretty much everything.

You see, a lot of people think about branding in terms of a logo. So they pick some colors and a logo design to convey their brand’s feeling, and then they call it a day. But the truth is, your brand should permeate every facet of your business. This includes:

  • Your logo
  • Your slogan
  • The colors and designs for your website and marketing materials
  • Your product packaging, and how your stuff looks when your customer receives it
  • Your online and offline content and marketing materials
  • Your customer service
  • Your reputation
  • Your Vision and Mission

And much more…

So whenever you do anything for your business, whether it’s creating the new product you’re about to launch, putting together your pre-launch content, or designing a landing page, think about how this activity or item reflects your brand.

Q: How can I build “top of mind” awareness?

A: When your prospects think about their niche-specific problems, you want them to associate your business with the solution to those problems. And the way to do this is by building brand awareness.

For example:

  • Sign off emails, social media posts and other content with something related to your brand. E.G., John The Copy Doctor.
  • Create contests with a focus on building brand awareness. For example, ask entrants to create a short video commercial based around your brand.
  • Be sure your ad campaigns strongly incorporate your brand (with your slogan, logo, etc.).

Example, Product Launch Strategy is creating a brand around “launching products and services” which help business owners make money building and launching their dream business so they can spend money enjoying their lives with the people they love.

To sum up…

Creating a product launch for your product or service from scratch can give you awesome results. But the real magic happens when you build the top of mind awareness needed to generate sales even when your ads and launch messages aren’t sitting right in front of your prospect’s nose!

Here’s The REAL Power Behind A Product Launch Formula Style ‘JV Launch’
